Shakespeare’s infamous knight-errant, Sir John Falstaff, has come to the township of Windsor in financial difficulties, and comes up with a plan to get himself some money – he will woo the wives of two local merchants, Page and Ford, seduce them both, and get the money he requires, in the hope that neither wives nor husbands find out the truth. All, unfortunately for Falstaff, does not go according to his plan.

HerStory follows Fianna, a vivacious and creative teenager with no great affinity for the academic side of life. We join Fianna as she is presented with a history project on an influential Irish woman. The guidelines of the project clearly state, she is not allowed to present on any household names like Countess Markievicz, Mary Robinson or Katie Taylor… no famous personalities or Irish legends. This leads her to think, ‘There’s no one left’.

Adult Child/Dead Child is a monologue play that follows the story of a young person and the growing awareness of their imaginary friend. Dealing with a strained home life, a new town and an incident at school, our unnamed protagonist ends up being sent to a child psychologist… who is, in their words - an idiot.

The Cork International Short Story Festival was founded in 2000. Then called the Frank O'Connor International Short Story Festival, an event dedicated to the celebration of the short story and named for one of Cork's most beloved authors, the event has grown to become one of the most prestigious short story festivals. The festival showcases readings, literary forums and workshops.

Ireland - 1990. Nelson Mandela was freed; the first female Irish president was inaugurated and the worst song of all time was composed entitled ‘Give it a lash Jack’. But these events are irrelevant to Oisín and Gráinne, two social misfits, as they attempt to survive life approaching Leaving Cert. Because there is something at the heart of Kilthomas... you can breathe it in the air. An old legend. A dark history set to repeat itself. It is not because of the briars, jagged rocks and dark terrain that no one walks down to the faery ring. People have disappeared without a trace.

Ten mini-plays each evening with themes ranging from high comedy to more serious plotlines so there something to suit all tastes. Audiences also get to vote for their favourite play of the evening which adds to the sense of occasion. Always a very popular event so early bookng is advised.

The Comedy Improvised Murder Mystery Gang are back again with their hilarious ‘off the cuff’ antics for four nights only at the Cork Arts Theatre from Wednesday 30th October.

The annual Cork One Act Theatre Festival takes place once again at the Cork Arts Theatre from Wednesday 6th to Saturday 9th November at 8pm each night. Theatre groups from all over Munster will gather over the four nights to compete for the all-important points in their bid to reach the All-Ireland One Act Final. Nine groups will stage a wide variety of plays showcasing the very best acting and directing talent. The competitive element makes for an electric atmosphere during the performances as the groups are evaluated by the adjudicator

Back in the nest, she discovers her Mother and cousin Mags have adopted new age spiritual practices to help cope with a death in the family. While worshipping at the altar of self-help, they try to encourage the deeply cynical and newly nihilistic Siobhán out of her slump. This new play by Shaunna Lee Lynch explores the mystical and materialistic aspects of self-improvement culture.

Three young men, or I should say young but old enough to know better men, take a break from their hectic lives for a holiday. Lanzarote? Puerto Rico? Are skiing holidays not all the rage? How they settled on a boating trip is up for debate, it seemed like a great idea at the time! In fact, the original intention for the trip up river was to write a serious travel guide, for those serious about taking in the sites and not drowning. This idea was soon scrapped in favour of having the craic. I’m sure they didn’t say “the craic” at the time, a frolic possibly?

“Showtime Memories” is a vivacious miscellany of songs of the 20th century musicals ranging from Showboat’s “Ol’ Man River” through My Fair Lady’s “I could have danced all night” to West Side Story’s “Tonight”. Narration is by Bernadette Madden. The quartet of singers are all classically trained and accompanied by the accomplished Frances Kelleher.
