10×10 Minute Play Event

The Cork Arts Theatre 10×10 Minute Play event is now in it’s record-breaking 9th year and has become one of the most popular events on our calendar. Once again we have a wonderful selection of plays for you to enjoy, all of which are being staged for the first time. From high comedy to tense drama, this evening at the theatre has it all.

Two of Clubs

TWO OF CLUBS is a new play written and performed by Jessica Leen. It is an epic tale with an original score set against the backdrop of the old New York jazz scene promising to be a feast for the senses. A sentimental story about sacrifice and escape.

PRIMAL

PRIMAL is a new play by award-winning Cork writer Ciarán Collins, author of bestselling novel ‘The Gamal’, and the theatrical debut of award-winning screen director Shaun O Connor. Set in the offices of academia, the story begins with a professor, a student, and a simple accusation of plagiarism. But as the narrative unfolds it becomes clear that there’s much more at stake -- for both parties. PRIMAL is a brutally honest examination of male relationships and power hierarchies, exploring the potential for darkness inside everyone - and how easily the veneer of civility can be wiped away when someone is pushed to their limits.

Each year we put a call out for short, 10 minute plays for a chosen setting. And each year authors from around the globe have risen to the challenge by submitting some wonderful scripts. Lasy year's event saw a record entry of 63 plays entered! However, only 10 of those plays can be staged. This year the setting is 'Views from a Harbour' and we are looking forward to presenting a very entertaining line-up of plays for you to enjoy.

Victor’s Dung

The multi-award winning and hilarious comedy play 'Victor's Dung' is set in a farm yard, complete with it's very own dung heap, outdoor toilet, and rather poor broadband reception. Presented by Blue Hat Productions.

The Merry Wives of Windsor

Shakespeare’s infamous knight-errant, Sir John Falstaff, has come to the township of Windsor in financial difficulties, and comes up with a plan to get himself some money – he will woo the wives of two local merchants, Page and Ford, seduce them both, and get the money he requires, in the hope that neither wives nor husbands find out the truth. All, unfortunately for Falstaff, does not go according to his plan.

Herstory

HerStory follows Fianna, a vivacious and creative teenager with no great affinity for the academic side of life. We join Fianna as she is presented with a history project on an influential Irish woman. The guidelines of the project clearly state, she is not allowed to present on any household names like Countess Markievicz, Mary Robinson or Katie Taylor… no famous personalities or Irish legends. This leads her to think, ‘There’s no one left’.

Howie the Rookie

The Regina Monologues

Six modern women have also married one man. Their lives are both separate and intertwined as they tell their stories from a room in which they have all once lived. Their experiences - miscarriage, love affairs, betrayal, and a shared loathing of all things ginger - are portrayed with humour, pathos and a great deal of wine.
