Eurydice
by Sarah Ruhl
Orpheus was the greatest musician in the world. His wife, Eurydice, died on their wedding day. Determined to bring her back, Orpheus journeyed to the Underworld. His music convinced the devil to allow Eurydice to follow him back to the surface on one condition: he must not look back until they emerged. Just before reaching the surface, Orpheus looked back, and Eurydice was lost forever.
Sarah Ruhl’s Eurydice revisits this myth from the heroine’s perspective. Blending magical realism with humour, it portrays Eurydice’s journey as she navigates the Underworld and rediscovers her identity.
This playful new staging features original music by local artists as well as a cast comprised entirely of graduates and students from MTU Cork School of Music.
