SUMMARY:LiY
DESCRIPTION:Saturday 13th September @ 12pm\nLiY\n– a work-in-progress showing for SFSH\nLiY is much more than just a music band. It’s a project born from the convergence of three creative minds\, joining forces to explore new artistic horizons. \nIn the midst of the pandemic\, an unlikely virtual encounter laid the foundations for this extraordinary artistic collaboration. Despite geographical boundaries (Quebec City/Lower St. Lawrence\, Montreal\, and London) and a background focused on theater\, Christian Lapointe\, Laurence Dauphinais\, and Simon Stephens* gave birth to LiY. The idea of forming a musical group was born from a simple conversation tinged with humor. When Simon\, having met Laurence virtually\, shared with Christian that she exuded the energy of a true rock star\, the spark of creativity ignited the project. \nLiY’s creative process is as unique as its members. Christian Lapointe\, based in Quebec City/Bas du Fleuve\, takes the lead by creating the instrumental at home. Once completed\, he passes this musical foundation on to Simon Stephens\, based in London\, who then composes the lyrics. Finally\, everything is passed on to Laurence Dauphinais in Montreal\, the band’s lead singer\, to bring the vocal melody to life. \nLiY defines itself as epistolary music. Their collaborative and rigorous approach results in a unique fusion of musical composition\, poetic lyrics\, and vocal performance. The band draws its influences from a wide range of genres\, from trip hop to electro clash\, drawing inspiration from references such as Portishead\, Austra\, The Knife\, Spiritualized\, Brutal Truth\, PJ Harvey\, and Björk. \n*Simon Stephens is one of the UK’s most prolific and celebrated playwrights. For more than 25 years Stephens’ work has been widely translated and produced throughout the world. He has won many Awards including Olivier and Tony Awards for new plays. His radical adaptation of Uncle Vanya\, Vanya\, starring Andrew Scott ran in London’s West End and at the Lucille Lortel \, New York between Autumn 23 and Spring 25 and was screened to phenomenal success on NT Live and NT Home. His adaptation of Jose Saramago’s Blindness was made into a light and sound installation that was produced internationally during the Covid 19 pandemic. His most famous play is his adaptation of Mark Haddon’s best-selling novel\, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. He has had thirty five original plays produced professionally. \nCelebrating its landmark 10th anniversary edition this year\, Sounds from a Safe Harbour (SFSH) inhabits Cork’s cultural spaces from 11–14 September 2025\, bringing with it a bold and immersive programme of music\, visual art\, language\, ritual\, and conversation. \nCurated by Festival Director Mary Hickson\, alongside actor Cillian Murphy\, Bryce Dessner (The National)\, writer Max Porter\, and folklorist Billy MagFhloinn\, SFSH continues to push the boundaries of what a contemporary arts festival can be\, blending the epic and the intimate\, the poetic and the political. \nTickets: €15\n \n*Booking fees apply. \nBOOK TICKETS\n

SUMMARY:No Exit: After Sartre
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday 17th to Saturday 20th September @ 8pm\nplus Matinee – Saturday 20th @ 2pm\n\nDeath by Cues presents\nNo Exit: After Sartre\nDeath by Cues are proud to present No Exit: After Sartre as part of CATALYST\, a collaboration between Cork Arts Theatre and The Everyman. \n“Hell is other people.” \nJoseph Garcin\, Inèz Serrano\, and Estelle Rigault\, are brought to the same room in hell and locked inside by a mysterious Valet. \nThere they observe what happens on earth after their passing and try to adjust to their new reality. \nWhile the pacifist journalist Garcin and the high-society woman Estelle believe their damnation to be a mistake\, the postal clerk Inèz accepts their fate as justified. \nDespite their differing viewpoints\, it becomes apparent throughout the play that the three will not be tortured in hell in traditional ways but will pose as torturers to one another. \nNo Exit: After Sartre is a modern re-working of the darkly humorous drama which questions what happens after death and examines the significance of our existence through the lens of others. Does the life we live define our afterlife? How does self-perception differ from how others perceive us? \n** Post show discussion following Thursday evening’s performance **\nDirector Donal O’Keeffe joins performers Kayleigh Carroll\, Oisín Carroll\, and Emely Tenhagen in a post-show discussion facilitated by Regina Crowley. \nCast\nEmely Tenhagen – Estelle\nKayleigh Carroll – Inéz\nOisín Carroll – Garcin\nSydney Sheehan (VO) – Valet \nCreative Team\nDonal O’Keeffe – Director\nChristian Sumstad – Lighting Designer\nMatthew Lucas – Sound Designer\nEmely Tenhagen – Production Manager\nSydney Sheehan – Stage Manager\nÁine Falvey – Relaxed Performance Co-ordinator \nRunning time: 70 min | No Interval\nAge recommendation: 16+\nTrigger Warnings: Themes of an adult nature\, Loud music / Loud effects \nNote: The Saturday matinee at 2pm will be a relaxed performance. \nTickets: €18\, €15 \n*Booking fees apply. \nBOOK TICKETS\n

SUMMARY:Warm Regards
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday 24th to Saturday 27th September @ 7.30pm\nplus Matinee – Saturday 27th @ 2.00pm\n\nWarm Regards\n\nWritten by Alison Teahan\nDirected by Sinéad Crowley\n\nAlison Teahan and Sinéad Crowley are proud to present Warm Regards as part of CATALYST\, a collaboration between Cork Arts Theatre and The Everyman. \nTwo best friends. One charming stranger. A birthday that changes everything.\nMadeline and Maeve are modern Irish women who have been entwined since the age of ten. \nWhen Patrick\, a charming tradesman from Derry\, comes to repair their radiator on the morning of Madeline’s birthday\, \nboth women are faced with a choice. \nThis play explores female friendship and how romantic relationships forever change our platonic loves. We journey through the consequences of envy and the undercurrent of female competition that can permeate even our purest of relationships. At its core\, Warm Regards is a contemporary Irish play about female friendship\, desire\, ageing and the quietly devastating moments where our lives begin to diverge from the people we love most. This play confronts the undercurrent of female competition that can exist even in the most nurturing of friendships; a topic rarely explored on stage. It asks: how do we navigate envy and comparison in a culture that pits women against each other\, whilst romanticising female closeness? \nSet in Cork with Cork voices\, Warm Regards speaks directly to modern Irish women\, tackling themes of beauty standards\, aging\, sexual agency and the emotional labour of being “the good friend.” The emotional intimacy and real-life dialogue offer a mirror for audiences to see themselves: their friendships\, their disappointments\, their laughter and their contradictions. \nCAST\nCillian Calvert as Patrick\nGeorgia Maguire as Maeve\nAlison Teahan as Madeline \nStage Manager: Aisling McCarthy\nAssistant Director: Yasmin Fitzgerald \nRunning time: 90 min | interval\nAge recommendation: 18+\nTrigger Warnings: Strong language\, Themes of an adult nature\, Onstage smoke effects\, Strobe lighting. \nTickets: €18\, €15 \n*Booking fees apply. \nBOOK TICKETS\n
