SUMMARY:The Wisdom of Eve
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday 1st – Saturday 4th November @ 8pm\nMatinee Saturday 4th @ 2.00pm\n\nThe Wisdom of Eve\nby Mary Orr\n\n“Fasten your seatbelts\, it’s going to be a bumpy night” \nThe UCC Players are delighted to be back on stage at the Cork Arts Theatre with their new production of “The Wisdom of Eve” by Mary Orr.\nShy\, sincere and conscientious\, Eve Harrington’s dream is realised when she is taken on as a personal secretary by her actress idol\, Margo Crane. However\, Eve’s seemingly innocent and devoted demeanour masks her true intentions– to usurp Margo’s position in the theatre world and become the new reigning star. The story unfolds through a series of betrayals\, deceptions\, and manipulations highlighting the cutthroat nature of the entertainment industry and the complexities of human relationships. \nAdapted from the short story by the author\, the story provided the basis for the Academy Award winning classic film All About Eve (starring Bette Davis and Anne Baxter) and the hit musical Applause. \nThis stage version is an engrossing and revealing inside story of life in the world of 1950’s New York theatre\, featuring an array of unforgettable characters and razor-sharp dialogue. \nDirector: Brenda Lynch \nCast (in order of appearance): \nKaren Roberts: Adriana Dinneen\nEve Harrington: Karen Ray\nMargo Crane: Jean van Sinderen-Law\nClement Howell: Jim O’Mahony\nLloyd Roberts: Mike O’Keeffe\nLeila: Ruben Keane\nTally-ho Thompson: Patricia O’Regan\nBert Hinkle: Mark Rowlands\nVera Thompson: Rosie O’Byrne \nRuntime: 2hrs 20mins approx. SUMMARY:The Perfect Immigrant
DESCRIPTION:Thursday 16th – Saturday 18th November @ 8pm\nplus Matinee Saturday 18th @ 2.30pm\n\nThe Perfect Immigrant\nWritten and Performed by Sam Yakura\n\nAfter a sold-out run at The New Theatre\, Dublin Fringe Festival 2022 and a short run at Smock Alley 2022\, The Perfect Immigrant is on tour!\nWhat else does a young Black man have to say if it isn’t about racism? \nToo busy trying to be an adult\, leaving Nigeria and settling in Ireland\, he has to find a way to hold on to both worlds. \nWith a story woven through prose and poetry\, you will shift in your seat as you are teased with the discomfort of this immigrant settling into a new land. Take sides as loyalty to home is torn by the promise of the new. \nBut the real question is\, where do you buy a hot pepper in Lucan? \nOriginally commissioned by Dublin Fringe Festival. This project was part of Weft\, funded by the Arts Council/An Chomhairle Ealaíon through the Open Call initiative for 2021. Developed with the support of Fishamble’s New Play Clinic.\n‘This witty and carefully crafted confessional show\, sliced up via fervent spoken word poems\, centres on family dynamics\, the experience of emigrating to a foreign land\, and the feeling of being an outsider for the first time.’\n★★★★ Buzz.ie \n‘Under Katie O’Halloran’s direction\, everything is kept simple and easy\, O’Halloran making sure to give Yakura plenty of room to breathe. The result is less a play or\, thankfully\, a lecture\, so much as a one-to one encounter. Yakura’s greatest strengths being his honesty and presence\, which makes the entire audience feel connected.’\n★★★★ Arts Review \n‘As a Nigerian in Ireland\, Levi is being constantly othered: his reciprocal othering of Irish culture is effective and funny.’\n– Irish Times. \n‘He creates an instant rapport with the audience and holds them throughout this view of life in Dublin\, from the outside looking in!’\n– No More Workhorse. \nWritten and Performed by Sam Yakura\nDirected by Katie O’Halloran\nLighting by Colin Doran\nSset Design by Pai Rathaya\nSound Design by Cameron James MacaulayProduced by Bellaray Bertrand\nProduced by Sinéad Gallagher\nStage Management by Alexandra Ayvazova\nChoreography by Alessandra Azevedo\nDramaturgy by Carys D.
