SUMMARY:Herstory
DESCRIPTION:[cmsmasters_row data_color=”default” data_bot_style=”default” data_top_style=”default” data_padding_right=”5″ data_padding_left=”5″ data_width=”fullwidth”][cmsmasters_column data_width=”1/1″ data_border_style=”default”][cmsmasters_text]\nby Aoife Byrne\nPresented by A.Tack Theatre\n\nMay 9th – 18th (excluding Sunday 12th) 2019 @ 8pm   \nHerStory follows Fianna\, a vivacious and creative teenager with no great affinity for the academic side of life. \nWe join Fianna as she is presented with a history project on an influential Irish woman. The guidelines of the project clearly state\, she is not allowed to present on any household names like Countess Markievicz\, Mary Robinson or Katie Taylor… no famous personalities or Irish legends. This leads her to think\, ‘There’s no one left’. \nHowever\, her reluctant research shows her women from Ireland who have influenced the world in ways she never even dreamed. Her vibrant imagination brings these women to life and allows her to talk with them. She discovers doctors\, scientists\, professors and world famous singers. With the help of these women Fianna begins to see things in a completely different way and learns that\, no matter what\, she can achieve anything. \nA.TACK THEATRE\nA.Tack Theatre was founded in March 2015 by Aoife Byrne and Alison McCarthy. A.Tack Theatre strives to create socially-aware theatre inspired by their lives and the lives of those around them. So far they have produced three original pieces: Jacqueline – a play about a couch-surfing student\, which won the Galway Fringe First Award 2018; Lockedwithin – which focuses on mental health issues; and Puck and the Lovers: A Dementia Inclusive Play – a piece designed entirely for people with dementia or similar. \nHerStory was inspired by the lack of Irish women featured in ‘Bedtime Stories for Rebel Girls’ and Aoife’s subsequent research into what Irish women had to offer in history. The play follows more obscure characters than the obvious – women that have achieved great things both at home and abroad but you wouldn’t usually find in your history books. This is A.Tack’s first venture into theatre for YA audiences. \nThis production is made possible by the Cork Arts Theatre and the Arts Council Emerging Artists Programme. \n“We are delighted to be part of the Emerging Artists Programme. The Cork Arts Theatre have provided a fantastic opportunity for ourselves and the others involved in the project to grow and develop our work and skills. We are delighted to be able to expand this new piece with their great support.” – A.TACK THEATRE \n \nTickets: €15\, €12 conc. \nAdministration fee on phone and online bookings. \nNote for Online Bookings: Once your booking is complete\, please either print your tickets at home and bring them with you\, or present them on your phone at the box office on arrival and they will print them for you. \n[/cmsmasters_text][cmsmasters_button shortcode_id=”a61ya833j” button_link=”https://www.ticketsource.eu/corkartstheatre/events” button_target=”blank” button_text_align=”left” button_style=”cmsmasters_but_bg_hover” button_font_weight=”bold” button_font_style=”default” button_text_transform=”none” button_border_style=”default” button_bg_color=”#b58e4f” button_text_color=”#ffffff” button_bg_color_h=”#000000″ button_text_color_h=”#ffffff” animation_delay=”0″]BOOK NOW[/cmsmasters_button][/cmsmasters_column][/cmsmasters_row]

Meanwhile\, Mistress Page’s daughter\, Anne\, is the object of affection of several would be suitors\, who all wish her hand\, in spite of the fact that she is in love with a young courtier\, Fenton\, who seems to have the disapproval of all around him. \nIt will all lead to a fairy-lit crescendo as Falstaff learns a very valuable lesson – don’t mess with the Merry Wives of Windsor! \nDirected by Raymond Brothers \nTickets: €15\, €12 conc. \nAdministration fee on phone and online bookings. \nNote for Online Bookings: Once your booking is complete\, please either print your tickets at home and bring them with you\, or present them on your phone at the box office on arrival and they will print them for you. \n[/cmsmasters_text][cmsmasters_button shortcode_id=”a61ya833j” button_link=”https://www.ticketsource.eu/corkartstheatre/events” button_target=”blank” button_text_align=”left” button_style=”cmsmasters_but_bg_hover” button_font_weight=”bold” button_font_style=”default” button_text_transform=”none” button_border_style=”default” button_bg_color=”#b58e4f” button_text_color=”#ffffff” button_bg_color_h=”#000000″ button_text_color_h=”#ffffff” animation_delay=”0″]BOOK NOW[/cmsmasters_button][/cmsmasters_column][/cmsmasters_row]

Lawrence\nPresented by Kinsale College Drama\nRed Handed is Wilbert W Lawrence’s savage indictment of ‘Normality’ and ‘things that are beige’. \nHis fourth\, and many think\, his best play\, Red Handed stretches and breaks theatrical conventions as if they are social conventions\, in an attempt to undermine the foundation blocks of corrupt western consciousness: ‘Normality is a state of being which is responsible for all that is wrong with society and the world.’ Or as he said to the press at the premiere of Red Handed at the Royal Court Theatre\, ‘Normal people scare me.’ Based on his own early experiences as a Neo-Situationist on the wrong side of London’s police\, and a lifelong obsession with his muse\, the political activist and granddaughter of Andre Gide\, Stella Gide\, Red Handed careers across modern London like an out of control tram. \nWilbert W Lawrence was born in Aberdeen in 1988. Originally an actor and poet\, he published a volume of poetry: Singing in Darkness\, in 2010 before going on to write four critically acclaimed and award winning plays: Cut the Telephone Wires\, won the Evening Standard’s Best New Play Award in 2013\, and a Tony award for theatre writing with the most innovative investigative practice. Pelted in the Street by my Own Family\, was turned into the award winning film Just Go\, in 2016. Red Handed has won three festival comedy awards\, in Edinburgh\, Brighton\, and Dublin. \nWilbert W Lawrence is seen by many as the most divisive figure in modern theatre. A provocative exponent of ‘bad-taste theatre’\, his work seeks to ‘swim against the tide of orthodoxy-sniffing doom merchants and their issue-based monotony.’  In the acceptance speech of his Tony Award\, Lawrence infamously denounced Martin McDonagh’s plays as ‘a poisonous\, politically-correct pastiche of JB Keane\,’ thereby igniting a long running feud. His denunciation of the Royal Court’s artistic policy\, led to a Court Case\, in which he was forced to retract the assertion that ‘fascism comes in all sorts of disguises. In The Royal Court it comes in the shape of trying to brainwash us that theatre can only be made by or in support of minority groups.’ His law suits with press and peers led him to try to unsuccessfully eradicate all mention of himself and his work from social media sites. \nCriticised by critics for writing a self-referential play in Red Handed\, it has been noted by those sympathetic to his work\, that in keeping with much of his published verse\, the self-portrait is not flattering. \nTickets: €10\nAdministration fee on phone and online bookings. \nNote for Online Bookings: Once your booking is complete\, please either print your tickets at home and bring them with you\, or present them on your phone at the box office on arrival and they will print them for you. \n[/cmsmasters_text][cmsmasters_button shortcode_id=”a61ya833j” button_link=”https://www.ticketsource.eu/corkartstheatre/events” button_target=”blank” button_text_align=”left” button_style=”cmsmasters_but_bg_hover” button_font_weight=”bold” button_font_style=”default” button_text_transform=”none” button_border_style=”default” button_bg_color=”#b58e4f” button_text_color=”#ffffff” button_bg_color_h=”#000000″ button_text_color_h=”#ffffff” animation_delay=”0″]BOOK NOW[/cmsmasters_button][/cmsmasters_column][/cmsmasters_row]

DESCRIPTION:[cmsmasters_row data_width=”fullwidth” data_padding_left=”5″ data_padding_right=”5″ data_top_style=”default” data_bot_style=”default” data_color=”default”][cmsmasters_column data_width=”1/1″ data_border_style=”default”][cmsmasters_text]\nby Ciarán Collins\nTuesday 5th – Saturday 9th March 2019 @ 8pm   \nPRIMAL is a new play by award-winning Cork writer Ciarán Collins\, author of bestselling novel ‘The Gamal’\, and the theatrical debut of award-winning screen director Shaun O Connor. \nSet in the offices of academia\, the story begins with a professor\, a student\, and a simple accusation of plagiarism. But as the narrative unfolds it becomes clear that there’s much more at stake — for both parties. \nPRIMAL is a brutally honest examination of male relationships and power hierarchies\, exploring the potential for darkness inside everyone – and how easily the veneer of civility can be wiped away when someone is pushed to their limits. \nThis tense drama\, punctuated by distinctly Cork humour\, builds to a stunning conclusion that will leave audiences discussing it long after the performance has ended. \nStarring Jack Walsh (The Tudors\, Killinaskully\, Fair City) and Tommy Harris (The Young Offenders\, Wet Paint\, Rebellion). \nCIARÁN COLLINS\nCiarán Collins is an award-winning writer based in Kinsale\, Co. Cork. His debut novel ‘The Gamal’ was published by Bloomsbury and won the Rooney Prize for Irish Literature and Le Prix Des Lecteurs Escapades\, France. It received rave reviews around the world\, including from The Irish Times\, New York Times\, Sydney Morning Herald\, Herald Scotland and many more. Ciarán is currently working on his second novel and debut feature screenplay.\nFor more information see ciarancollinsauthor.com. \nSHAUN O CONNOR\nShaun O Connor is an award-winning film and television director. In addition to directing various work for RTE\, Shaun’s film work has screened all over the world and won awards at festivals including DC Shorts\, the Cork Film Festival and Irish Music Television Awards. His latest short film ‘Mary’\, starring Mark O’ Halloran and funded by the Irish Film Board\, premiered at the 2018 Galway Film Fleadh. Shaun is also a prolific writer and photographer and is currently developing various projects\, including his debut feature film.\nFor more information see shaunoconnor.com. \n‘Primal’ is Ciarán and Shaun’s first creative collaboration. It’s also individually their first theatrical project and they look forward to developing more work for the stage and in particular with the Cork Arts Theatre. \nThis production is made possible by the Cork Arts Theatre and the Arts Council Emerging Artists Programme. \n“The Cork Arts Theatre’s Emerging Artists Programme was the perfect opportunity to develop our first theatrical project with local financial and creative support. We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to bring ‘Primal’ to the Cork Arts Theatre stage and gaining the experience to develop future theatrical projects. We’re also looking forward to developing an ongoing creative relationship with the Cork Arts Theatre.” – ‘PRIMAL’ CREATIVE TEAM \n \nTickets: €15\, €12 conc.\nAdministration fee on phone and online bookings. \nNote for Online Bookings: Once your booking is complete\, please either print your tickets at home and bring them with you\, or present them on your phone at the box office on arrival and they will print them for you. \n[/cmsmasters_text][cmsmasters_button shortcode_id=”a61ya833j” button_link=”https://www.ticketsource.eu/corkartstheatre/events” button_target=”blank” button_text_align=”left” button_style=”cmsmasters_but_bg_hover” button_font_weight=”bold” button_font_style=”default” button_text_transform=”none” button_border_style=”default” button_bg_color=”#b58e4f” button_text_color=”#ffffff” button_bg_color_h=”#000000″ button_text_color_h=”#ffffff” animation_delay=”0″]BOOK NOW[/cmsmasters_button][/cmsmasters_column][/cmsmasters_row]

DESCRIPTION:[cmsmasters_row data_color=”default” data_bot_style=”default” data_top_style=”default” data_padding_right=”5″ data_padding_left=”5″ data_width=”fullwidth”][cmsmasters_column data_width=”1/1″ data_border_style=”default”][cmsmasters_text]\nAn Intimate Night of Musical Theatre with Thomas Cameron\n\nThomas Cameron is a nineteen year old English tenor\, whose voice has been described as having velvet-like qualities. \nHe first discovered his love for singing when he was selected for the lead role in a production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat when he was eleven years old. \nThomas began vocal tuition from an early age\, but it wasn’t until he met his current vocal coach Val Skull\, that he realised his potential in classical singing and from here began his classical training. Thomas has worked with a number of people on his latest works\, including Irish music producer Robert Macleod (‘Tomorrow’ Universal ‘Candle for Kosovo’ Grapevine Records\, Bwitched) and sound engineer Scott Barnett (Peter Gabriel\, Beyoncé)\, recording at the world famous Real World Studios\, owned by Peter Gabriel. He has also worked with the likes of Alex Gordon at  the most famous studio in the world\, Abbey Road Studios\, when mastering his debut album. \nAfter recording his first album\, Thomas successfully secured an eight date summer tour across the United Kingdom and Ireland at an array of different festivals. One of the highlights of this summer tour\, included two appearances at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival where he performed at the Arthur Conan Doyle Centre and Stockbridge Church\, two of the finest venues in Edinburgh. Another highlight was selling out two shows on the Isle of Wight for the Ventnor Fringe Festival. \nThomas was nominated for a Classical Brit Award at the 2018 ceremony held at The Royal Albert Hall. \nOn 12th July 2018\, the first single ‘Bring Him Home’ from Thomas Cameron’s debut album ‘The Voice of Thomas Cameron’ was launched at Buckland House to a sold out audience. Thomas subsequently made his debut television appearance on BBC One\, being interviewed on BBC Spotlight about his career to date and his album. \nThomas has worked with a number of composers across the globe\, working closely with them to help bring their compositions to life. His second single\, ‘Nothing Lasts Forever’\, an original song written in collaboration with Irish singer/songwriter Pat Fagan\, will be released this November. \nHe will perform at the Cork Arts Theatre alongside up and coming composer Damien Bamforth\, at new venue ‘The Forge’ in Limerick and finally\, in 2019\, one of Thomas’ largest successes to date\, a performance in the world renowned National Concert Hall of Ireland\, principal national venue for classical music concerts in Ireland. \nVIDEO: Thomas being interviewed on BBC TV and singing an excerpt from his single\, ‘Bring Him Home’ (from Les Miserables). \nDAMIAN BAMFORTH – Composer\n \nDamian is an up and coming\, classical composer from the UK. \nDamian has a rare gift in that he hears entire pieces in his head and while he cannot score or write music to the level of his compositions\, with the aid of a computer he has been able to bring his scores to life. He is currently recording his debut album in Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios with the aid of esteemed Juiliard Piano Graduate\, Orla McDonagh. \nDamian already has an impressive list of recitals lined up including the Cork Arts Theatre where his music will be performed by esteemed concert pianist Michael McHale and he also has a concert hall appearance scheduled for next year. \nTickets: €15 \nAdministration fee on phone and online bookings. \n[/cmsmasters_text][cmsmasters_button shortcode_id=”a61ya833j” button_link=”https://www.ticketsource.eu/corkartstheatre/events” button_target=”blank” button_text_align=”left” button_style=”cmsmasters_but_bg_hover” button_font_weight=”bold” button_font_style=”default” button_text_transform=”none” button_border_style=”default” button_bg_color=”#b58e4f” button_text_color=”#ffffff” button_bg_color_h=”#000000″ button_text_color_h=”#ffffff” animation_delay=”0″]BOOK NOW[/cmsmasters_button][/cmsmasters_column][/cmsmasters_row]

Nine groups will stage a wide variety of plays showcasing the very best acting and directing talent. The competitive element makes for an electric atmosphere during the performances as the groups are evaluated by the adjudicator. \nThe adjudicator for the event is Tony McCleane Fay. He will have the onerous task of deciding the winning play and selecting the best actor\, actress and director. \nJames Horgan\, the Festival Director\, said\, “The Cork One Act Theatre Festival is always one of the highlights of the theatre calendar. The event always guarantees a great night out for theatre-goers as the groups that perform are of a high standard and\, with nine plays to choose from\, there is always plenty of variety. \nPoints are awarded to the top performing groups who will then take to the road and present their plays in other venues around the country with a view to gaining enough points to qualify for the All-Ireland Final in December. It’s an exciting event as the groups are very conscious of the fact that this is a competition and\, as a result they must pull out all the stops. \nPROGRAMME: \nWednesday 7th November \n\nBlue Hat Productions (Open) – ‘Wanda’s Visit’ by Christopher Durang\nConna Drama Group – ‘The Problem’ by A.R. SUMMARY:The Comedy Improvised Halloween Murder Mystery
DESCRIPTION:[cmsmasters_row data_color=”default” data_bot_style=”default” data_top_style=”default” data_padding_right=”5″ data_padding_left=”5″ data_width=”fullwidth”][cmsmasters_column data_width=”1/1″ data_border_style=”default”][cmsmasters_text]\n‘Horror Hotel’\nStarring: Laura O’Mahony (CCCahoots\, RTE’s ‘Bridget and Eamonn’ and ‘The School’)\, Annette Roche and Laura Harte (The Improv Panto)\, Adrian Scanlan (Snatch Comedy) and John McCarthy (RTE’s ‘The School’ and Hammergrin Theatre).\nDevised by James Horgan. \nThe Comedy Improvised Murder Mystery Gang are back again with their hilarious ‘off the cuff’ antics for three nights only at the Cork Arts Theatre from Thursday 25th October. \nNow in its 8th year\, the show is entirely improvised and with no script to fall back on the actors must create the entire plot with its many twists and turns on the spot. As usual\, things get out of hand pretty quickly with deadly (and hilarious) consequences. \nThe audience must play their part each night too and they will secretly decide beforehand who the unfortunate victim and the mysterious murderer will be. And they will also provide hilarious ‘secrets’ that the cast read out at random moments to add mayhem and mirth to the proceedings. All of this is completed before the show starts so that the audience can then sit back\, relax and enjoy the ensuing mayhem. \nBringing the various characters to life each evening is the task for the very talented Cork cast members. Their experience in comedy improvisation will ensure that the audience won’t have time to catch their breath. \nThe production is devised by Cabal Theatre Company director\, James Horgan\, who says of the show\, “Due to both its improvised nature and the audience ‘secrets’ the show is completely different each time it’s performed. This year ‘the gang” turn up at a very shady hotel and it soon becomes apparent that all is not as it seems – especially not our various characters!” \nSo\, with audience suggestions\, random musical cues and no script in sight\, ‘The Comedy Improvised Halloween Murder Mystery’ is set to be a deliciously chaotic and hilarious evening’s entertainment and one of the season’s comedy highlights. \nTickets sell out very quickly for this show and\, with just 3 performances\, we advise booking as early as possible. \nTickets: €17\, €13 conc.\, Groups of 8 or more €12\n \nAdministration fee on phone and online bookings. \n[/cmsmasters_text][cmsmasters_button shortcode_id=”a61ya833j” button_link=”https://www.ticketsource.eu/corkartstheatre/events” button_target=”blank” button_text_align=”left” button_style=”cmsmasters_but_bg_hover” button_font_weight=”bold” button_font_style=”default” button_text_transform=”none” button_border_style=”default” button_bg_color=”#b58e4f” button_text_color=”#ffffff” button_bg_color_h=”#000000″ button_text_color_h=”#ffffff” animation_delay=”0″]BOOK NOW[/cmsmasters_button][/cmsmasters_column][/cmsmasters_row]

A sentimental story about sacrifice and escape. \nIt’s 1938 and as war comes calling so do her dreams. Choosing to fight her own battles\, Polly leaves Cork behind for New York. But will the non-conventional route be make or break for the Douglas girl? \nWith dreams of being a singer\, New York proves to be a tough port of call for the young Irish woman who has fallen quickly in love with jazz music. SUMMARY:That's Amore (Too)
DESCRIPTION:[cmsmasters_row data_width=”fullwidth” data_padding_left=”5″ data_padding_right=”5″ data_top_style=”default” data_bot_style=”default” data_color=”default”][cmsmasters_column data_width=”1/1″][cmsmasters_text]\nAnother evening of laughter\, love… and food!\nFollowing the success of last year’s ‘That’s Amore!’ event\, it’s back again but now\, imaginatively titled\, ‘That’s Amore! (Too)’. \nOnce again we have five\, very funny\, short plays\, each between 10 and 15 minutes long and all revolving around the theme of relationships (of sorts). And\, to make the evening even more special\, complimentary Italian antipasti is included in the ticket price and will be served after the show. \nMost of the plays are brand new and so\, will receive their world premieres at the event. \n‘That’s Amore! (Too)’ brings together a wealth of Cork talent – writers\, actors and crew – to create a wonderful night out at the theatre. \nAnd the complimentary antipasti after the show allows audiences to really enjoy a taste of the Mediterranean right here in Cork. \nLast year’s event sold out very quickly so early booking is advised. \nPlays: \n‘Weird’ by Joanne McCall introduces us to teenage misfit\, Tilly\, who is quite happy to not run with the crowd. Her classmates won’t let it rest there\, however\, and Peter has been goaded into striking up a conversation with Tilly. But there’s more to our social outcast than meets the eye. \n‘Naggin’ by Síne Friel tells the hilarious tale of a bride and groom on the morning of their wedding day. Both of them\, however\, are having serious doubts. The problem is neither of them have told the other how they feel. With the wedding just minutes away\, what will they do? \nIn ‘The Player’ by Catrin Hol\, two women strike up a conversation in a local bar as one of them waits to meet her blind date. Unfortunately\, it turns out that the other woman used to date him and all is not as it seems. \n‘Three in a Bar’ by Eithne Horgan\, is perhaps set in the same bar above\, on a different evening. A woman of mature years sits alone having just given her blind date his marching orders for being too ‘friendly’. A kindly couple take pity on her and do their best to console her with extraordinary results. \nThe final play of the evening is ‘The Rental’ by Mark Harvey Levine. Sonya receives an extraordinary birthday present from her best friend – a rented\, professional boyfriend. He’s the perfect man for her – but unfortunately he’s only there for a day. \nDirected by James Horgan. Running time 1hour 20mins. \nTickets: €15 \nAdministration fee on phone and online bookings. \n[/cmsmasters_text][cmsmasters_button shortcode_id=”a61ya833j” button_link=”https://www.ticketsource.eu/corkartstheatre/events” button_target=”blank” button_text_align=”left” button_style=”cmsmasters_but_bg_hover” button_font_weight=”bold” button_font_style=”default” button_text_transform=”none” button_border_style=”default” button_bg_color=”#b58e4f” button_text_color=”#ffffff” button_bg_color_h=”#000000″ button_text_color_h=”#ffffff” animation_delay=”0″]BOOK NOW[/cmsmasters_button][/cmsmasters_column][/cmsmasters_row]
