This new play celebrates the life and times of Katty Barry. \nThe play was written with the support of Miss Barry’s family. All characters are fictitious\, with the exception of Katty. \nKatty Barry\, who was a legend in her own time\, ran an eating house in Dalton’s Avenue\, just off Cornmarket Street. Her establishment was frequented by peers and paupers alike\, and all were treated the same\, with nightly songs and stories\, as Katty served alcohol\, often late at night\, despite having no licence\, and being repeatedly fined. \nThe Cork Examiner described Katty Barry as the personification “of a people and a culture peculiar to a particularly colourful and indigenously Cork milieu”\, presiding over bohemian Cork life until the closure of her establishment by the late sixties. \nThe Irish Times stated that Katty Barry remained “elegant\, observant\, highly intelligent\, with a devilish twinkle in her eye and the ability to cut people down to size.” \nCast: Marie O’Donovan\, Pearse O’Donoghue\, Angela Newman\, Judy Donovan\, Jimmy Brockie. \nTickets available on TakeYourSeats.ie:   €14.00 (+€1.00 fees) \n\nDuration: 1 hour 55 minutes\nAge Restriction: 12+\n\nThis performance will be available to view for 24 hours after the starting time. \n\n\n[/cmsmasters_text][cmsmasters_button shortcode_id=”a61ya833j” button_link=”https://takeyourseats.ticketsolve.com/shows/873623314/events/129345810″ button_target=”blank” button_text_align=”left” button_style=”cmsmasters_but_bg_hover” button_font_weight=”bold” button_font_style=”default” button_text_transform=”none” button_border_style=”default” button_bg_color=”#b58e4f” button_text_color=”#ffffff” button_bg_color_h=”#000000″ button_text_color_h=”#ffffff” animation_delay=”0″]BOOK NOW[/cmsmasters_button] \n[cmsmasters_divider shortcode_id=”wmeid4k6l5″ width=”long” height=”1″ position=”center” margin_top=”50″ margin_bottom=”50″ animation_delay=”0″] \n[cmsmasters_text] \nThis production is made possible by the Cork Arts Theatre and Cork City Council’s Emerging Artists Programme. \n[/cmsmasters_text] \n[cmsmasters_divider shortcode_id=”ut5w3bm3o2″ width=”long” height=”1″ position=”center” margin_top=”50″ margin_bottom=”50″ animation_delay=”0″] \n[/cmsmasters_column][/cmsmasters_row][cmsmasters_row data_shortcode_id=”otzqt1hcvk” data_width=”fullwidth” data_padding_left=”5″ data_padding_right=”5″ data_top_style=”default” data_bot_style=”default” data_color=”default”][cmsmasters_column data_width=”1/1″ data_shortcode_id=”4xb9t2wxth” data_border_style=”default”][cmsmasters_text] \nAbout Doonshee\n\nDoonShee making tiny but mighty productions. \nDoonShee is committed to producing new works by Irish writers. \nDoonShee\, where up-and-coming theatre artists work side-by-side with an experienced\, established team in bringing “ideas” to full realisation. \nFurther information: doonsheedoonshee@gmail.com \n  \n[/cmsmasters_text][/cmsmasters_column][/cmsmasters_row][cmsmasters_row data_shortcode_id=”ls5t089c5d” data_padding_bottom_mobile_v=”0″ data_padding_top_mobile_v=”0″ data_padding_bottom_mobile_h=”0″ data_padding_top_mobile_h=”0″ data_padding_bottom_tablet=”0″ data_padding_top_tablet=”0″ data_padding_bottom_laptop=”0″ data_padding_top_laptop=”0″ data_padding_bottom=”50″ data_padding_top=”0″ data_bg_parallax_ratio=”0.5″ data_bg_size=”cover” data_bg_attachment=”scroll” data_bg_repeat=”no-repeat” data_bg_position=”top center” data_color=”default” data_bot_style=”default” data_top_style=”default” data_padding_right=”3″ data_padding_left=”3″ data_width=”boxed”][cmsmasters_column data_width=”1/1″ data_shortcode_id=”htz5bfst6″ data_animation_delay=”0″ data_border_style=”default” data_bg_size=”cover” data_bg_attachment=”scroll” data_bg_repeat=”no-repeat” data_bg_position=”top center”] \n[cmsmasters_divider width=”long” height=”1″ position=”center” margin_top=”50″ margin_bottom=”50″ animation_delay=”0″ shortcode_id=”jb7pnx86gf”] \n[/cmsmasters_column][/cmsmasters_row]

It presents a masterly\, exaggerated picture not only of the playwright himself but of his whole household\, his court\, his admirers\, his lifestyle and his era. \nThe plot depicts a few days in the life of the successful and self-obsessed light comedy actor Garry Essendine as he prepares to travel for a touring commitment in Africa. Amid a series of events bordering on farce\, Garry has to deal with women who want to seduce him\, placate both his long suffering secretary and his wife\, cope with a crazed young playwright\, and overcome his impending mid-life crisis. DESCRIPTION:[cmsmasters_row][cmsmasters_column data_width=”1/1″][cmsmasters_text] \n  \n[/cmsmasters_text][/cmsmasters_column][/cmsmasters_row][cmsmasters_row data_width=”fullwidth” data_padding_left=”5″ data_padding_right=”5″ data_top_style=”default” data_bot_style=”default” data_color=”default”][cmsmasters_column data_width=”1/1″ data_border_style=”default”][cmsmasters_text] \nCANCELLED\n\nSunday 22nd March @ 8.00pm \nPolish Arts Festival presents \nJulia\n\nJulia is a performance about a women’s journey into her inner self through her life experiences that made her who she is at the present moment. Julia (Justyna Cwojdzinska) goes through a rejection in a relationship\, loneliness\, an emotional breakdown\, depression\, a fight for her own self with her own emotions to learn that she is capable of taking another step and yet another one and get her life back on a track and become a survivor after all the 123 years of fighting. She stays alive. Julia’s emotions on stage are presented in a form of a dancer (Ewa Kotuła)\, Julia’s alter ego\, the voice of the soul is revealed by singing and music (Anna Banko Szumacher). In the performance you enjoy fragments of such songs as “If you go away” by Jacques Brel\, “Creep” Radiohead or “Na zakręcie” by Agnieszka Osiecka. In an era where mental health is becoming a fervent subject\, Julia invites you to look at a survival in a world full of loneliness among the crowds. The performance is bilingual (Polish – English). \nWritten and directed by: Justyna Cwojdzińska\nPerformed by: Justyna Cwojdzińska\, Ewa Kotuła\, Anna Banko Szumacher.\nMusic: Anna Banko Szumacher\, Aiden Boland.\nStage Lights: Sylwia Wierzbicka\nPhotography: Anna Hurkowska \nTickets: €15\nAdministration fees apply on phone and online bookings. The yarn is spun by scholars and famous names of the day\, alongside an Egyptian camel-driver\, a chief executioner of Tehran\, and a distressed modern-day poet\, who rails against the ills of our current world\, and grapples with questions about human existence. \nA Strange Bit of History was first performed at the Edinburgh Festival\, where it won the Spirit of the Fringe Award. Following the Fringe\,it was performed 109 times in 10 different countries. \nOmid’s theatre credits include Fiddler On The Roof (Chichester)\, The Shawshank Redemption (Edinburgh)\, What the Butler Saw (Vaudeville Theatre) and Fagin in Oliver! (Theatre Royal Drury Lane). Television includes Going Forward\, Lucky Man\, Dickensian\, two seasons of The Omid Djalili Show and on US network television\, Whoopi\, The Paul Reiser Show and his own HBO stand-up Special.
