Ten groups will stage a wide variety of plays showcasing the very best acting and directing talent. The competitive element makes for an electric atmosphere during the performances as the groups are evaluated by the adjudicator. \nThe adjudicator for the event is Irene O’Meara. She will have the onerous task of deciding the winning play and selecting the best actor\, actress and director. \nJames Horgan\, the Festival Director\, said\, “The Cork One Act Theatre Festival is always one of the highlights of the theatre calendar. The event always guarantees a great night out for theatre-goers as the groups that perform are of a high standard and\, with ten plays to choose from\, there is always plenty of variety. \nPoints are awarded to the top performing groups who will then take to the road and present their plays in other venues around the country with a view to gaining enough points to qualify for the All-Ireland Final in December. Except for the fact that it’s 2023 and Maggie is actually still in her bedroom since 2020 when she developed agoraphobia during lockdown.\n\nSurviving on Tesco home delivery and working as an online GAA content curator\, she has her family and friends fooled into believing she is living her best global life\, while she runs a fake blog from the green screen in her bedroom. But tonight\, when the power goes and the only world she exists in disappears\, an interrupted Maggie must weather her own existential storm.\n\nA comedic\, all-baring glance into the mind of an extroverted introvert desperate for a connection.\n\nWaiting for Wifi is a one woman\, empty space piece of physical theatre that breaks the mould of conventional theatre and opens audiences up to an everyday life story in an abstract way. It touches on the themes of mental health and social media in a darkly comedic way\, showing the existential crisis of Cork girl\, Maggie. In a non-sensical sense-making stream of consciousness that comes to life on stage\, this is a bold\, fast paced\, unusually scripted and physically daring piece of modern theatre that is\, in a way\, Beckettian in intent and a modern hat tip to Beckett’s Godot.\n\nWaiting For Wifi uses both voiceover and a live variety multi-character performance to bring this one woman show to full fruition. As a musician\, the writer and performer – Jessica Leen – enjoys using sound in creative ways but also enjoys the simplicity of one actor on an empty stage performing everything themselves with finely tuned mime\, vocal impressions and strong performance physicality.\n\nDuration: 50 minutes\n\nTickets: €15\, €12 concessions\n\nNB: Covid Certification is now required for entry for everyone over 18 years of age. SUMMARY:The Comedy Improvised Murder Mystery
DESCRIPTION:[cmsmasters_row data_width=”fullwidth” data_padding_left=”5″ data_padding_right=”5″ data_top_style=”default” data_bot_style=”default” data_color=”default”][cmsmasters_column data_width=”1/1″ data_border_style=”default”][cmsmasters_text] \n“They’re Back!!”\nThursday 28th to Saturday 30th October @ 8:00pm\nThe Comedy Improvised Murder Mystery Gang at ‘Frownton Abbey’\nStarring: Laura O’Mahony\, Dominic McHale\, Annette Roche\, Laura Harte and Adrian Scanlan.\nDevised by James Horgan. \nThe Comedy Improvised Murder Mystery Gang are back at last with their hilarious ‘off the cuff’ antics at the Cork Arts Theatre from Thursday 28th October. \nCelebrating its 10th year\, the show is entirely improvised and with no script to fall back on the actors must create the entire plot with its many twists and turns on the spot. As usual\, things get out of hand pretty quickly with deadly (and hilarious) consequences. \nThe audience must play their part each night too and they will secretly decide beforehand who the unfortunate victim and the mysterious murderer will be. And they will also provide hilarious ‘secrets’ that the cast read out at random moments to add mayhem and mirth to the proceedings. All of this is completed before the show starts so that the audience can then sit back\, relax and enjoy the ensuing mayhem. \nBringing the various characters to life each evening is the task for the very talented Cork cast members. Their experience in comedy improvisation will ensure that the audience won’t have time to catch their breath. \nThe production is devised by Cabal Theatre Company director\, James Horgan\, who says of the show\, “Due to both its improvised nature and the audience ‘secrets’ the show is completely different each time it’s performed. This year ‘the gang’ are attending a Halloween party at the spooky ‘Frownton Abbey’ but\, tragically\, it will be the last party for one of them! Who will the victim be? And who is the dastardly murderer? No-one knows\, especially not the cast!” \nSo\, with audience suggestions\, random musical cues and no script in sight\, ‘The Comedy Improvised Halloween Murder Mystery’ is\, as always\, a deliciously chaotic and hilarious evening’s entertainment and one of the season’s comedy highlights. \nTickets sell out very quickly for this show so we advise booking as early as possible. \nAnd please note\, that the show is only suitable for persons aged 16 and over. \nTickets: €17\, €13 conc.\, Groups of 8 or more €12 \nAdministration fee on phone and online bookings. \nImportant!: As per current government guidelines\, we will only be able to welcome audience members who are fully vaccinated\, or recovered from COVID-19 within the previous 6 months\, or minors accompanied by an adult. Please bring photo ID and proof of vaccination with you. Thank you for your co-operation. \nNote for Online Bookings: Once your booking is complete\, please either print your tickets at home and bring them with you\, or present them on your phone at the box office on arrival and they will print them for you. \n[/cmsmasters_text][cmsmasters_button shortcode_id=”a61ya833j” button_link=”https://www.ticketsource.eu/corkartstheatre/the-comedy-improvised-murder-mystery/e-kvgmby” button_target=”blank” button_text_align=”left” button_style=”cmsmasters_but_bg_hover” button_font_weight=”bold” button_font_style=”default” button_text_transform=”none” button_border_style=”default” button_bg_color=”#b58e4f” button_text_color=”#ffffff” button_bg_color_h=”#000000″ button_text_color_h=”#ffffff” animation_delay=”0″]BOOK NOW[/cmsmasters_button][/cmsmasters_column][/cmsmasters_row]

In his new solo performance Myles celebrates the poet\, playwright and novelist – recounting the affect Wilde has had on his own work\, and indeed his life. \nBeginning with studying ‘The Importance of Being Earnest’ for the Leaving Cert and exploring his many other works\, Myles delves into Oscar’s incredible life story – one that has been a constant source of inspiration and obsession. \nNo stranger to Cork\, Myles studied in UCC in the 1980s featuring in many dram society productions including Waiting For Godot with Graham Norton. He worked many times with the city’s Grafitti Theatre Company and has been seen on stage at The Granary\, Everyman and Opera House over the decades. \nWilde was an artist whose unique imagination and ideas on life\, love and art are as modern today as when they were first written\, and whose rapid rise to fame and scandalous down fall is still an example of how a society can turn on those who do not conform; a man of his time\, but also of all time. \nReuniting with director Liam O’Brien (Language UnBecoming A Lady / The Bachelor of Kilkish)\, the international award winning Limerick based company presents this their 15th production as part of a 6-week nationwide tour. \nOriginally funded by their sell out 10th anniversary fundraiser ‘Bottom’s Up’ in 2018\, Bottom Dog are delighted to debut at Cork Arts Theatre with yet another story they are passionate about. \nFeaturing excerpts from Wilde’s writings alongside Breen’s trademark wit and performed with his usual flair\, A Wilde Fan is a personal and theatrical take on one of history’s greatest artists\, by his biggest fan. \n“Be yourself; everyone else is already taken!” \nTickets: €15 \nNB: Covid Certification is now required for entry for everyone over 18 years of age. Brand new full length version of this heart – warmingly funny yet poignant play starring well know Cork actress Pauline O’Driscoll (Smalltown\, The Young Offenders) in which Mam shares her hilarious take on motherhood\, sexuality\, grief\, infidelity\, ageing\, love\, lust and loneliness. A female centric piece that will appeal to all. \nA contemporary reimagining of Shakespeare’s most famous soliloquy –  but from a Mam’s point of view! \nThanks to the response of Cork Arts Theatre audiences and its hugely successful run as a short form piece in our Lunchtime & Supper Theatre programme in 2018\, co-writer’s Mark Evans and Pauline O’Driscoll decided Seven Ages of Mam deserved to be developed into a full length play. Mam was revamped in 2019 and she came back\, bigger and better than ever and went on to garner rave reviews and be nominated BEST NEW PLAY at its World Premiere at Brighton Fringe Festival in 2019 \nWe are thrilled to have this gem of a play back where it started\, now in its new full length\, 70 minute form (no interval) as part of Mam’s first tour in Ireland. Go Mam! \n“MUST SEE SHOW … wondrously inventive exploration of motherhood\, grief\, lust\, heartbreak and joy… hilariously detailed….consummately acted…. wholly believable… O’Driscoll can call down the angels in a light high tessitura – a whisper away from silence\, and she can on occasion roar like a banshee….What O’Driscoll is master of is pause and sudden tangent. The surprise monologue\, the hilariously detailed aside\, the squirm of embarrassment\, and the language of love and forgiveness and letting go. What O’Driscoll brings even more than the humour is the sudden abiding grief. And what she gets more than grief is life-affirming humour\, and what she gets most is utter exhaustion…. No\, she’s of a piece……. the most original riff on the Seven Ages I’ve seen\, and so beautifully subsumed you might not notice it at all … See it.”– Simon Jenner\, FringeReview \n5 STAR HIT with audiences:-  “Belly Laughed”….“Staggeringly Brilliant”…. “Hugely Entertaining”…..“Highly Recommended”…. “a one woman show that feels like a stage full” ….”Beautifully crafted play\, exquisitely performed” … ” Genuinely laughed and cried”…. … “Pauline holds her audience in the palm of her hand. She is a natural story teller and we just want more”… “Everyone Can Relate” – Facebook Audience Reviews \nTickets: €12\, €10 concessions\n \nNB: Covid Certification is now required for entry for everyone over 18 years of age. DESCRIPTION:[cmsmasters_row data_width=”fullwidth” data_padding_left=”5″ data_padding_right=”5″ data_top_style=”default” data_bot_style=”default” data_color=”default”][cmsmasters_column data_width=”1/1″ data_border_style=”default”][cmsmasters_text] \nWednesday 8th to Saturday 11th September 2021 @ 8pm\nStage-It Productions present \nThe Importance of Being Earnest\nby Oscar Wilde\nDirected by Finola Doyle O’Neill\nProduced by Dolores Dermody\, Stage-managed by Brenda Lynch. \nOscar Wilde’s comedy of manners\, or as the dramatist himself so aptly puts it\, ’A trivial comedy for serious people’ is as relevant today as it was in 1890s Victorian England. The wit and wisdom of Wilde’s comedy are sure to strike a chord with modern audiences\, where ‘polite society’ is really another term for scathing social media soundbites! \nThis incomparable classic\, is directed by UCC broadcast historian\, Finola Doyle O’Neill\, creative director of Stage It Productions. The cast of this amateur production\, includes Tim Roche\, a former All-Ireland drama finalist\, who plays Anglican Minister\, Dr Chasuble. His love interest\, the Governess\, Miss Prism\, is played by Eithne Horgan\, a fine comedic actress\, seen in the 2019 film Lovestruck at the Cork Film Festival. The formidable Lady Bracknell is played by Ber Madden\, who has performed a series of stand-out leading roles for the UCC Players. Her daughter Gwendolyn is played by Julie Coleman\, known for her performances in the annual 10×10’s at the Cork Arts Theatre. Reece Hawtrey\, a UCC theatre graduate and an exciting up and coming Cork actor\, plays the part of Algernon Moncrieff. MTU Drama and Theatre graduate Pearse O’ Donoghue\, plays the lead role of Jack Worthing\, while his wily ward\, Cecily Cardew\, is played by former Montforts protegee Karen Ray.  Rory O’ Flynn\, plays the role of manservant Lane\, an eccentric character who captures all the absurdities and the frailties of modern life. \nWith accompanying music throughout\, this is a night of fun and frolics\, not to be missed! \nTickets: €16 \nNB: Covid Certification is now required for entry for everyone over 18 years of age. SUMMARY:SOLD OUT - Waiting for Wifi

Except for the fact that it’s 2023 and Maggie is actually still in her bedroom since 2020 when she developed agoraphobia during lockdown. \nSurviving on Tesco home delivery and working as an online GAA content curator\, she has her family and friends fooled into believing she is living her best global life\, while she runs a fake blog from the green screen in her bedroom. But tonight\, when the power goes and the only world she exists in disappears\, an interrupted Maggie must weather her own existential storm. \nA comedic\, all-baring glance into the mind of an extroverted introvert desperate for a connection. \nWaiting for Wifi is a one woman\, empty space piece of physical theatre that breaks the mould of conventional theatre and opens audiences up to an everyday life story in an abstract way. It touches on the themes of mental health and social media in a darkly comedic way\, showing the existential crisis of Cork girl\, Maggie. In a non-sensical sense-making stream of consciousness that comes to life on stage\, this is a bold\, fast paced\, unusually scripted and physically daring piece of modern theatre that is\, in a way\, Beckettian in intent and a modern hat tip to Beckett’s Godot. \nWaiting For Wifi uses both voiceover and a live variety multi-character performance to bring this one woman show to full fruition. As a musician\, the writer and performer – Jessica Leen – enjoys using sound in creative ways but also enjoys the simplicity of one actor on an empty stage performing everything themselves with finely tuned mime\, vocal impressions and strong performance physicality. \nDuration: 50 minutes \nTickets: €12\, €10 concessions. \n[/cmsmasters_text][cmsmasters_button shortcode_id=”qec1dz384c” button_link=”https://www.ticketsource.eu/corkartstheatre/waiting-for-wifi/e-llzjqz” button_target=”blank” button_text_align=”left” button_font_weight=”default” button_font_style=”default” button_text_transform=”default” button_border_style=”default” animation_delay=”0″]Book Tickets[/cmsmasters_button] \n[cmsmasters_divider shortcode_id=”wmeid4k6l5″ width=”long” height=”1″ position=”center” margin_top=”50″ margin_bottom=”50″ animation_delay=”0″] \n[cmsmasters_text shortcode_id=”mxxecr6n3p” animation_delay=”0″] \nGUIDELINES FOR ATTENDING SHOWS\n\nWe would like to bring your attention to the following measures that we have put in place to ensure a safe and comfortable experience for all our patrons.\n \n\nTemperature will be taken of staff\, actors and audience members as they enter the venue.\nMasks must be worn. The two women have found themselves under the same roof again after Mary’s husband found ‘fresher fields’ and is living with “a girl his daughter’s age”. Dot is in constant fear that Mary will send her to a retirement home and so is always suspicious of Mary’s intentions. The constant second-guessing leads to some very funny moments in a play that is also touching and thought-provoking on Mother-Daughter relationships. \nDolores said\, “It has been a joy working on this play through both the writing phase and bringing the characters to life on the stage. The oftentimes fractious relationship that mothers and daughters experience is overflowing with drama but no matter what difficulties arise there is no denying the deep bond they share. That has been the inspiration for ‘Mam and Me’.” \nThe play stars two actresses well-known to Cork theatregoers\, Antoinette Hilliard and Fionula Linehan \nTickets: €12\, €10 concessions. \n[/cmsmasters_text][cmsmasters_button shortcode_id=”wy910mpk9s” button_link=”https://www.ticketsource.eu/corkartstheatre/mam-and-me/e-kvarxb” button_target=”blank” button_text_align=”left” button_font_weight=”default” button_font_style=”default” button_text_transform=”default” button_border_style=”default” animation_delay=”0″]BOOK TICKETS[/cmsmasters_button] \n[cmsmasters_divider shortcode_id=”wmeid4k6l5″ width=”long” height=”1″ position=”center” margin_top=”50″ margin_bottom=”50″ animation_delay=”0″] \n[cmsmasters_text shortcode_id=”mxxecr6n3p” animation_delay=”0″] \nGUIDELINES FOR ATTENDING SHOWS\n\nWe would like to bring your attention to the following measures that we have put in place to ensure a safe and comfortable experience for all our patrons.\n \n\nTemperature will be taken of staff\, actors and audience members as they enter the venue.\nMasks must be worn. This new play celebrates the life and times of Katty Barry. \nThe play was written with the support of Miss Barry’s family. All characters are fictitious\, with the exception of Katty. \nKatty Barry\, who was a legend in her own time\, ran an eating house in Dalton’s Avenue\, just off Cornmarket Street. Her establishment was frequented by peers and paupers alike\, and all were treated the same\, with nightly songs and stories\, as Katty served alcohol\, often late at night\, despite having no licence\, and being repeatedly fined. \nThe Cork Examiner described Katty Barry as the personification “of a people and a culture peculiar to a particularly colourful and indigenously Cork milieu”\, presiding over bohemian Cork life until the closure of her establishment by the late sixties. \nThe Irish Times stated that Katty Barry remained “elegant\, observant\, highly intelligent\, with a devilish twinkle in her eye and the ability to cut people down to size.” \nCast: Marie O’Donovan\, Pearse O’Donoghue\, Angela Newman\, Judy Donovan\, Jimmy Brockie. \nTickets available on TakeYourSeats.ie:   €14.00 (+€1.00 fees) \n\nDuration: 1 hour 55 minutes\nAge Restriction: 12+\n\nThis performance will be available to view for 24 hours after the starting time. \n\n\n[/cmsmasters_text][cmsmasters_button shortcode_id=”a61ya833j” button_link=”https://takeyourseats.ticketsolve.com/shows/873623314/events/129345810″ button_target=”blank” button_text_align=”left” button_style=”cmsmasters_but_bg_hover” button_font_weight=”bold” button_font_style=”default” button_text_transform=”none” button_border_style=”default” button_bg_color=”#b58e4f” button_text_color=”#ffffff” button_bg_color_h=”#000000″ button_text_color_h=”#ffffff” animation_delay=”0″]BOOK NOW[/cmsmasters_button] \n[cmsmasters_divider shortcode_id=”wmeid4k6l5″ width=”long” height=”1″ position=”center” margin_top=”50″ margin_bottom=”50″ animation_delay=”0″] \n[cmsmasters_text] \nThis production is made possible by the Cork Arts Theatre and Cork City Council’s Emerging Artists Programme. \n[/cmsmasters_text] \n[cmsmasters_divider shortcode_id=”ut5w3bm3o2″ width=”long” height=”1″ position=”center” margin_top=”50″ margin_bottom=”50″ animation_delay=”0″] \n[/cmsmasters_column][/cmsmasters_row][cmsmasters_row data_shortcode_id=”otzqt1hcvk” data_width=”fullwidth” data_padding_left=”5″ data_padding_right=”5″ data_top_style=”default” data_bot_style=”default” data_color=”default”][cmsmasters_column data_width=”1/1″ data_shortcode_id=”4xb9t2wxth” data_border_style=”default”][cmsmasters_text] \nAbout Doonshee\n\nDoonShee making tiny but mighty productions. \nDoonShee is committed to producing new works by Irish writers. \nDoonShee\, where up-and-coming theatre artists work side-by-side with an experienced\, established team in bringing “ideas” to full realisation. \nFurther information: doonsheedoonshee@gmail.com \n  \n[/cmsmasters_text][/cmsmasters_column][/cmsmasters_row][cmsmasters_row data_shortcode_id=”ls5t089c5d” data_padding_bottom_mobile_v=”0″ data_padding_top_mobile_v=”0″ data_padding_bottom_mobile_h=”0″ data_padding_top_mobile_h=”0″ data_padding_bottom_tablet=”0″ data_padding_top_tablet=”0″ data_padding_bottom_laptop=”0″ data_padding_top_laptop=”0″ data_padding_bottom=”50″ data_padding_top=”0″ data_bg_parallax_ratio=”0.5″ data_bg_size=”cover” data_bg_attachment=”scroll” data_bg_repeat=”no-repeat” data_bg_position=”top center” data_color=”default” data_bot_style=”default” data_top_style=”default” data_padding_right=”3″ data_padding_left=”3″ data_width=”boxed”][cmsmasters_column data_width=”1/1″ data_shortcode_id=”htz5bfst6″ data_animation_delay=”0″ data_border_style=”default” data_bg_size=”cover” data_bg_attachment=”scroll” data_bg_repeat=”no-repeat” data_bg_position=”top center”] \n[cmsmasters_divider width=”long” height=”1″ position=”center” margin_top=”50″ margin_bottom=”50″ animation_delay=”0″ shortcode_id=”jb7pnx86gf”] \n[/cmsmasters_column][/cmsmasters_row]

David Rowlands\, an exciting up and coming Cork actor\, plays the part of Algernon Moncrieff. Drama and Theatre graduate Pearse O’ Donoghue\, plays the lead role of Jack Worthing\, while his wily ward\, Cecily Cardew\, is played by former Montforts protegee Karen Ray.  Rory O’ Flynn\, plays the role of manservant Lane\, an eccentric character who captures all the absurdities and the frailties of modern life. \nWith accompanying music throughout\, this is a night of fun and frolics\, not to be missed! \nTickets: €15\nAdministration fees apply on phone and online bookings. DESCRIPTION:[cmsmasters_row data_color=”default” data_bot_style=”default” data_top_style=”default” data_padding_right=”5″ data_padding_left=”5″ data_width=”fullwidth”][cmsmasters_column data_width=”1/1″ data_border_style=”default”][cmsmasters_text] \nWednesday 9th to Sunday 13th September\, 2020 @ 8pm\nStage-It Productions present\n‘The Importance of Being Earnest’\nby Oscar Wilde\n \nDirected by Finola Doyle O’Neill\nProduced by Dolores Dermody\, Stage-managed by Brenda Lynch. It’s a show not to be missed. \nBeanz has performed at all the major festivals in Ireland\, including Electric Picnic where his humorous take on societal issues was branded by the Irish Times as the best discussion at minefield during the festival. It presents a masterly\, exaggerated picture not only of the playwright himself but of his whole household\, his court\, his admirers\, his lifestyle and his era. \nThe plot depicts a few days in the life of the successful and self-obsessed light comedy actor Garry Essendine as he prepares to travel for a touring commitment in Africa. Amid a series of events bordering on farce\, Garry has to deal with women who want to seduce him\, placate both his long suffering secretary and his wife\, cope with a crazed young playwright\, and overcome his impending mid-life crisis. The character is a caricature of the author’s real-life persona\, as Coward acknowledged. \nThe production is produced by Ian McGuirk\, directed by Mary Curtin\, and features an all-star Cork cast!! \nTickets: €15\nAdministration fees apply on phone and online bookings.
