SUMMARY:Cortisol
DESCRIPTION:Thursday 31st August @ 8pm\nFriday 1st September @ 1pm\nCORTISOL\nby Megan Haly & Shannon Haly\nREHEARSED READING \nCortisol tells the story of Sam who through love\, grief and self discovery is learning to navigate life in her twenties- with a metamorphic timeline\, the play drifts between childhood nostalgia and present day chaos.\nThis is a new piece of writing by Cork sisters Megan and Shannon Haly. Collaborating across different time zones\, the Halys began writing Cortisol during the Covid Pandemic. With only 18 months between them\, the sisters wanted to address commonly held misconceptions about people in their twenties. The idea of ‘your twenties being the best years of your life’ was something they struggled with and felt it was an important reality that needed discussion. Nostalgia is a fundamental theme to this play. It looks at how our childhood and growing up in Ireland has influenced the kind of people we are today. From being honest about our sexuality\, living up to our parents’ expectations of us\, leaving our hometowns and the evolution of friendships as we get older\, this play is an exploration of love\, self discovery\, and the journey of becoming ourselves. \nFresh off the stage from a rehearsed reading of their play at the Irish Repertory Theatre in New York\, the sisters are excited to share a new draft of Cortisol with Cork audiences at The Cork Arts Theatre. \n“Cortisol is like a puzzle piece you are putting together in your brain as you’re watching.” – Jenny Green\, New York Irish Arts. \nWritten and Performed by Megan Haly & Shannon Haly\nDirected by Bailey Bass\nProduced by Sadhbh Barrett Coakley\nStage Managed by Molly Foley\nLighting by Jamie Feehily \nCortisol is one of 4 new works in the CATALYST programme that runs throughout September at Cork Arts Theatre. \nCATALYST is a new collaboration between Cork Arts Theatre and The Everyman\, supported by Cork City Council Arts Office\, which aims to provide a platform for the work of early career theatre artists in the city. \nTickets: €8\n*Booking fees apply. \n \n
